How can we make citizens  to participate in urban planing and transformation process? What could be the role of digital tools such as augmented and virtual reality in the realm of participatory urbanism? The project is about developing an interphase, which will enable citizens to participate in an urban redevelopment process. This interphase is part of a strategic urban planing project called Adaptive Neighborhood in Mumbai, INDIA.

 During the research trip, it was evident that the informal activities that are currently performed inside the houses, have a great potential to transform the neighborhood into micro-economy. The project Adaptive Neighborhood envisions a responsive system in the neighborhood that will make the space adapts to activities, which can produce economic value for citizens. These responsive spaces will inhabit variety of activities and will be able to transform based on citizens need. Citizens will be able to choose the activities that they want to perform through an interphase, which will make people active participants in the transformation process.

There is variety of informal activities, which have a potential to create an economic benefit for citizens. The interphase enables that the citizen will choose the activity that they want to perform, and they will the spacial impacts of their decisions in urban planning process through augmented and virtual reality tools. The interphase allows real-time visualizations of participants choice, which makes them to understand physical consequences of their decisions.
